E-News November 2023
Update from Prof. Lori Foster, IAAP President
Dear IAAP Members,
I hope this message finds you well. As November ushers in the promise of summer for our Southern Hemisphere colleagues, I'm delighted to share some recent highlights from our IAAP community.
The Early Career Marathon on November 11-12 was a standout event, showcasing the dedication and innovative research of our student and early career colleagues. I extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to the scientific and organizing committees for their hard work in facilitating such a successful event.
Now, let's turn our attention to the ongoing strategic planning efforts. As your President, in collaboration with President-Elect Pedro Neves, I want to:
Revisit Our Purpose: Our strategic planning is a cornerstone in charting the course for IAAP for the next 3-5 years. This collective journey draws from various sources: previous strategic plans, insights from our website, feedback from the Board of Directors meeting, conversations with organizational leaders, engaging focus groups, and a comprehensive membership survey. Each facet contributes uniquely to our understanding of the varied needs and aspirations within our community.
Express Our Gratitude: A big thank you to everyone who shared their valuable insights. The rich tapestry of perspectives, covering different ages, career stages, and psychology specialties, has significantly broadened our understanding and will greatly assist in shaping our strategy.
Update You on Steering Committee Progress: Over the past three weeks, our strategic planning steering committee, embodying diverse voices from within IAAP, has been intensely engaged in the strategic planning process. Together, we have dedicated 8 hours to online discussions (a nod to Zoom for making this possible!), complemented by thorough preparatory and reflective work. Our aim? To synthesize the diverse inputs into 3-4 coherent and impactful goals, aligning with our collective aspirations for IAAP.
Describe Our Focus: It's crucial to recognize what our strategic plan aims to achieve and what it does not. Our focus is not to capture the entirety of IAAP's activities but rather to identify key areas of priority that will significantly propel our association forward in the next 3-5 years. These goals will guide our decision-making in special projects and resource allocation (time, funds, etc.), with each goal supported by specific objectives to turn our collective vision into reality.
Encourage Ongoing Engagement: While the plan is still evolving, expect further updates as we progress toward its launch in early 2024. In the meantime, Pedro and I are always open to your questions and thoughts during this journey.
As we continue to steer the future of IAAP, your role is pivotal. Your participation and insights are what keep IAAP a dynamic and forward-thinking community. Let's continue to collaborate towards a promising and impactful future for IAAP.
With warm regards,
Lori Foster
