Core Competences in Professional Psychology

The “International Declaration on Core Competencies in Professional Psychology” is a set of core competences endorsed in 2016 by the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) and by the International Union of Psychological Science (Syrups). These two organizations have supported the project all the way from the start in 2013.

The Declaration is a set of core competences which can be used to describe and identify the essential elements of professional psychology practice around the world. There is growing evidence of a broad, global interest in the project, based on requests for more information and it has already been used towards developing regulations and/or bench-marking criteria in several national associations.

The Declaration, which is available below, can also be found on the IPCP website.

A toolkit and an updated version of the Declaration is to be added in 2026.
