RESUME: DR. ROLANDO DÍAZ-LOVING (Past President)

Rolando Díaz-Loving, a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, is a full time professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he has been the Head of the Social Psychology Graduate Program, and Dean of the Psychology Graduate School and Head of the Research and Graduate Studies Division. His academic contributions on the subjects of culture and personality, ethnopsychology, health, couples and family includes the editorship of 15 volumes of Social Psychology in Mexico, the authorship of more than 200 scientific articles, over 92 book chapters, 16 research books,  a textbook in its second edition, and another one in English and then translated to Spanish. He has also been the editor of the “Revista de Psicología Social y Personalidad”, of the Journal “Investigación Psicologica” and of Psychological Research Records, in addition to being on the editorial board of the Journal of Cross-cultural Psychology, Personal Relationships, the Interamerican Journal of Psychology and the Mexican Journal of Psychology among others. He has been president of the Interamerican Society of Psychology. He co-founded and was president of the Mexican Association of Social Psychology and was part of the executive of the International Association of Cross-Cultural Psychology. He has also been a consultant to the University of Illinois, the World Health Organization, to the International Union of Scientific Psychology and to the WHO Texas Center of Collaboration. He has received the Presidential distinction from the Puerto Rican Psychological Society, the Interamerican Psychology Award form the Interamerican Society of Psychology, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Texas at Austin and recently, the Ruben Ardila Research Award form the International Union of Scientific Psychology in conjunction with the Interamerican Society of Psychology, Distinguished Professor and Honorary Doctor from the University Ricardo Palma en Peru, and Distinguished Professor from the University de la Frontera in Chile.

RESUME: DR. MIRTA FLORES-GALAZ (Secretary)

Mirta Flores-Galaz has a BA, MSc., and PhD in Social Psychology from the School of Psychology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She is a tenured, full time professor at the Autonomous University of Yucatan and chair of the Social Psychology Academic Group. She is part of the National Researchers System (SNI-II) and has published many articles, book chapters, and books in the area of Culture and Personality.  She has also taught undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate courses. In 2006, she was the recipient of the Dr. Rogelio Diaz-Guerrero award for her Psychosocial and Ethnopsychological research. Co- founded and chaired the Mexican Association of Social Psychology. She was Executive Secretary for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean of the Interamerican Society of Psychology (2005-2007), as well as National Representative for Mexico in the same society (2007-2009; 2009-2011; 2011-2013). Additionally, she has been recognised as a scholar with PROMEP profile for teaching excellence since 1999.

RESUME: DR. SHAIL SHANKAR (Newsletter Editor and Website Liasion)

Shail Shankar is currently an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi, India. He received his PhD in psychology from Centre of Advanced Studies in Psychology, University of Allahabad, India. His research work focused on the religious beliefs of the elderly (Mumukshus) and how this related to their health status. After completion of his PhD, he joined the Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences (Allahabad) as a post-doctoral research fellow in an ESRC funded project and researched the experiences of pilgrims (Kalpawasis) attending the Magh Mela at Allahabad. Currently, he is working on issues of identity amongst Tibetan refugees in India. His research interests include identity and group behaviour and human interaction with environment.
