APPLICATION OF THE COGNITIVE RULE OF CHINESE CHARACTER IN LITERACY TEACHING IN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Some teaching strategies on how to teach Chinese characters to pupils were put forward based on the cognitive rules of Chinese Character: 1) According to experience effect, pupils should be taught first to recognize the graphemes of those characters which have already been skillful mastered in children's oral speech. 2) According to structurally symmetrical effect in process of Chinese characters cognition (PCCC), literacy teaching should be focused on the structural symmetry of Chinese characters, and teach pupils the symmetrical characters and / or radicals first. 3) According to frequency effect in PCCC, whole characters should be taught to pupils earlier than its details / elements. 4) According to concrete effect in PCCC, pupils should be taught the characters which express the concrete thing in pupils' everyday live. 5) According to stroke number effect in PCCC, simple characters should be taught to pupils earlier than complex characters. 6) Besides the other Chinese characters in the text book could be taught to pupils according to the mustering teaching system of literacy. 7) The text book should be rewritten according to experiments results based on the above teaching strategies.
