SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENT IN THE EDUCATIONAL CONTEXT: DEVELOPING THE SKILLS TO COPE

The presentation will cover the theoretical and conceptual framework that underlies coping and will address the relevance of this conceptualisation for young people. It will draw on a 15 year program of research on young people's coping in the educational context, describing what we know to date. The application of this knowledge has resulted in the development of coping skills programs. One universal school based coping skills program is evaluated and implications for educational and counselling practice are considered.
