LEARNING INTERACTION, LEARNING AWARENESS, AND ACHIEVEMENT OF THE STUDENTS WITH MENTAL RETARDATION

Metacognitive learning awareness refer to the knowledge, control and, monitoring of one's learning strategies. Forty special high school students (mild plus moderates with mental retardation) of 2nd grade and 74 normal elementary school students of 4th grade for matched-MA were given Learning Awareness Questionnaire in five learning areas of semantic content, response strategy, processing strategy, summarization, memory processes awareness. Students with high IQ and high achievement levels scored higher on learning awareness. Students with mild mental retardation could improve in their learning awareness of mathematics through small groups learning approach for cognitiveq- metacognitive training.
