CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY IN COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE IN SINGAPORE
Kua, E.H., National University of Singapore, Singapore
The future mental health service in Singapore should not be restricted to institutional care but should expand into the community. Clinical psychology in this new paradigm is challenging for services at the day hospital and domiciliary care. Stress-related disorders, rehabilitation, addictive disorder and even schizophrenia could be managed by clinical psychologists in the community. In the multi-disciplinary mental health team, they have not only a clinical role but also training and research responsibilities. Clinical psychology could play a pivotal role in this strategic plan that would ensure a cost-effective, seamless and accessible service.
