EFFECTS OF MNEMONIC KEY-LETTERS METHOD ON ENGLISH VOCABULARY ACQUISITION

Based on previous works, this study is designed to explore further the effect of the mnemonic key-letters method on the retrieval of the Chinese definition when cued with their English words. Chinese-speaking junior middle-school students were used as subjects and English words as materials in the study. The results indicated that the standard key-letters method could enhance the retrieval of the Chinese definition when cued with their English words in both immediate and one-week delayed tests.
