Leung, C., Lau, J. and Leung, S., Hong Kong SAR Government, Hong Kong
The aim of the project was to evaluate the application and effectiveness of a cognitive-behaviorist family intervention program, the Positive Parenting Program, with Chinese parents in Hong Kong. The participants included 136 parents, with 40 of them attending individual programs and 96 of them attending group programs. The participants were randomly divided into the study group and the control group and they completed questionnaires on their perceived efficacy as parents and their children's behaviors both before and after the program (the control group members were offered the program afterwards). The participants and the program facilitators were also interviewed to obtain their views on the process of the program, especially its cross-cultural appropriateness. Implications for service development and cross-cultural application of programs are discussed.
