A review of the author's recent field experiments and laboratory experiments on eyewitness recall and identification and speaker identification will be presented. Topics to be covered involve both system variables (e.g., voice lineup procedures, enhanced retrieval instructions, dual modality lineups) and estimator variables (e.g., intentional learning, distributed learning, number of perpetrators, violence, and so forth). In addition, recent data on lay persons common sense beliefs about the accuracy of person descriptions and accuracy of identifications in both research settings and in legal settings will be described.
