Rashidzadeh, M.A., Shiraz University, Iran
Burnou syndrome has been reported among school principals (Begley, 1982; Wax & Hales, 1987; Friedman, 1995).Also Rashidzadeh (2002)in a study about burnout among school principals reported that most of the principals felt exhausted, aloof, and deprecated. The purpose of this study was to investigate burnout among Iranian school principals and its relation to their personality characteristics. The sample were 150 principals(75 men, 75 women) which were selected randomly. The Friedman School Principal Burnout Scale(Friedman, 1995) and Jenkins Activity Survey(Zyzanki & Jenkins, 1970)were translated to Farsi the Iranian native language then they were back translated to English. After correction the Farsi version was used to measure the degree of burnout and the type of personality of principals. The alpha reliability of the scales were .78 and .84 respectively. The results showed significant correlation between burnout and type of personality. Those who scored higher in burnout questionnaire had type A personality. Other results will be discussed.
