TRANSFORMATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Ethnic diversity and its influence on social integration is examined in the light of UNESCO's recommendations at the International Seminar on Ethnic Diversity and Public Policies as published in various documents (New York 1994 & 1999). Ethnic populations have changed dramatically at most Higher Education Institutions in South Africa. This has led to conflicts, the need to transform and accept co-existence. Research results are used to highlight discussions on the transformation process. The recommendations for transforming other Higher Education Institutions are presented.
