EFFECT OF PSYCHO SOCIAL INTERVENTION FOR BEHAVIOUR PROBLEMS SELF-ESTEEM ADJUSTNENT PROBLEMS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND FAMILY RELATIONSHIP FOR SINGLE PARENT ADOLESCENTS

A comparative study between the adolescents of single parent family and Intact family was done on the aspects of behaviour problems, self-esteem, Ajustment problems, Academic achievement and Interfamily relationship was.The tools used were Behaviour problem - Youth Self Report (Achenbech 1991),Adjustment problem - The Pre-Adolescent Adjustment Scale (Pareek et.al975),Academic Achievement - Test marks, Self-esteem - S.Karunanidhi (1997), Family relationship - Index of Family relations(Hudson 1997).The analyses of the results showed that adolescents from the single parent family have low self-esteem ,behaviour problems, adjustment problems low academic performance and poor family Inter relationships compared to Adolescents from Intact family. The Psycho-Social Intervention program included 20 sessions of 60- 70 minutes duration spread over 2 months. The program included Self-esteem training, Study skills training, Interpersonal relationship Skills training, behavioural counseling and parent counseling. Results at the post assessment indicate effect of psycho-social intervention in significantly reducing behavioural problems, Ajustment problems, and Improvement in Self-esteem, Academic achievement and Interfamily relationship. Implications of the present study and suggestions for further research are discussed.
