THE BURNOUT SYNDROME OR PROFESSIONAL FATIGUE IN PROFESSORS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LOS ANDES

In this paper we study the incidence of Burnout in a sample of University of los Andes teachers, using the MBI (Maslach & Jackson, 1981). Results show level medium of Burnout characterize by levels medium of despersonalization, emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment. We studied the effects of some variables in the three dimensions of burnout. Sociological and proffesional variables that were related to these subscales were: age, sex, and rank. Other variables for: marital status, have or havent children, and partner with or without work, were not related to burnout levels. As for contour of teacher factor: years of instruction, and academic level, were related to burnout levels neither. KEY WORDS: Burnout, Professional fatigue, Stress of worker, University teachers.
