REPORT OF ACTIVITIES - DIVISION 5

Mid 2003, Division 5 was shocked to hear the sudden and tragic passing of its President Professor Paul Pintrich. He has been deeply missed by his friends, colleagues and all members of Division 5. Paul's death is a great human loss for science and IAAP as Paul was an outstanding scholar. Several "In memoriam sessions" were organized for Paul, one at the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI), one at the American Psychological Association (APA) and two at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) conferences.

Following this sad event, Professor Simone Volet, President Elect, agreed to step in as President a few years earlier and a call for nomination for a new President-Elect was organised. Professor Peter Nenniger, from the
University of Koblenz-Landau was elected as President-Elect with support of Division 5 members early in 2004.

In addition to promoting IAAP at various conferences, members of Division 5 Executive have been actively preparing for the 2006 ICAP, in interaction with the Scientific Committee.

A letter promoting IAAP and Division 5 has also been sent to eminent scholars in the Asia Pacific region -
Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and China - inviting them to join the Association.
