Statement for elections for the post of president elect 2010-2014
I have been a member of the executive committee of Division 8, Health Psychology of IAAP since 2006 when I started my work as Secretary of the Division following the ICAP in Athens. In my role as secretary I prepared Division 8 statements for the IAAP newsletter, took the minutes at the EC (Executive Committee) strategic meetings, and worked together with the other members of the EC in setting up the scientific program of Division 8 for the ICAP 2010 in Melbourne. I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. My research interests include the development of theory-based interventions for health-behavior change, social factors / dyadic exchanges for health-behavior change and well-being, and lifespan perspective in health psychology.
Health Psychology as a discipline has become increasingly important with escalating health-related problems world-wide, for example due to unhealthy lifestyle. Division 8, Health Psychology of IAAP has the potential to contribute to the promotion of health and well-being in our society as a result of our members’ expertise. Therefore, my vision for the future of Division 8 is an increased impact of the Division within and outside of IAAP. I will try to achieve these goals by working together with the members of the EC of Division 8 on increasing the number of members of the Division world-wide, and increasing the Division’s visibility in other Health Psychology Societies, for example by organizing Division 8 symposia at other academic conferences. Moreover, for an increased impact of Division 8 it is essential to foster communication and collaboration among our members; for example during the ICAPs but also via the new Journal of IAAP, Applied Psychology: Health and Well-being. As our members are the foundation of our Division, my highest priority will be to stay in close contact with our members and promote the interests of Division 8 within and outside IAAP as effectively as possible.
