Some of you will already know that Talib Rothengatter died of cancer on 12 February.

You will know that he was the inaugural IAAP Traffic and Transportation Division (Division 13) President and made a vast contribution to the multi-disciplinary field of traffic and transport research, including initiating the journal Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour as well as Division 13 of IAAP. His considerable achievements were recognised by his elevation to fellowship of IAAP - the only Division 13 member to be so recognised to date.

I had known Talib for over 20 years and had great respect for him. He will be greatly missed by many people. His Groningen colleagues and others with whom he worked closely are writing an obituary, which will be posted in due course on the Division 13 website. There may also be opportunities for others to add their personal tributes if they so wish.

It is particularly unfortunate that Talib will not be involved in the next International Conference on Traffic and Transportation Psychology (in 2012) which, thanks to Kazumi Renge and his colleagues' generous decision to withdraw their own very fine bid for this conference, was recently awarded to Grongingen.

Kind regards.

A/Prof Ian Glendon
(President, IAAP Division 13)
